Hello.
What we do.
XX BLDG Workshop is an architect-led design-build firm based in Los Angeles, specializing in residential design and hillside construction. We shape spaces that spark curiosity, encourage play, and cultivate creativity in daily life. Our homes are keenly aware of their context - their connection to the natural environment, to their communities, and to the people who inhabit them.
As both a licensed Architect and General Contractor, we offer a streamlined approach to the building process. From concept to completion, our clients work with a unified team, facilitating seamless communication and collaboration across disciplines. When your architect is also your builder, there's a strong alignment between vision and execution. The result is a home that is shaped by the unique character of each site and client, and expertly crafted to live up to the dream.
Licensed General-B Contractor #1126189.
How it all started.
Founder, Principal, and General Contractor Lindsay Carlisle Sheron grew up on a farm in Louisiana before moving to the West Coast after graduate school. She founded XX BLDG Workshop a decade into her architecture career with the intention of returning the architect’s role to its hands-on roots as master builder - that extraordinary, multi-disciplinary fusion of unbounded creativity and gritty practicality. Throughout her practice, she developed an aesthetic voice that reflects her personal values - openness and intimacy, blending indoor and outdoor environments, love of whimsical elements, and purposeful communal spaces.
Of note is her recently completed case study house called “Slopehouse,” in Northeast Los Angeles, for which she served as both designer and general contractor. Completed in 2024, the home is an example of how these ideas can be applied in the context of a contemporary single-family home with site and budget constraints.
Where we’re headed.
XX BLDG Workshop aims to contribute to a new generation of builders united by a love of making, storytelling, and contextual awareness. We invest in elevating women’s role in the building industry - in the trades as well as design - to show young women just how fulfilling and valuable this work can be.

Discover our case study house - a vintage-inspired single-family home on a steep, complex parcel in Mt. Washington. Slopehouse is a showcase for applying our values of open, communal living, playful risk-taking, and emphasis on the beauty of natural materials.
A House without hallways
We love collaborating with our clients to challenge the paradigms that constrain how we think about homebuilding and design. We respond to the challenges and limitations of topography, budget, and code compliance to innovate and reimagine how the spaces we inhabit can enrich our lives.
Environmental Resiliency
Design and building-science must respond to a changing climate. We have the technical background to design, detail, and build for the environmental challenges we face here in California, from earthquakes, to atmospheric rivers, and wildfire.
