Why Design-Build?
We offer an architect-led design-build model with an agile, multidisciplinary team unafraid to defy convention to solve the many challenges of getting our designs built. Unlike many contractor-led firms, we place architecture and design at the forefront of every project—creating structures that are meaningful, functional, and faithful to the client’s vision. From concept to completion, we stay closely engaged, bringing insight, expertise, and a willingness to zoom in and out at every phase of the process. The team provides real-time feedback on cost and constructability early in the design phase, which helps us avoid complications in the field, cost overruns, and scheduling delays—especially critical in today’s volatile market. This approach simplifies project delivery, making it faster, smoother, and more cost-effective. For clients who prefer to work with their own contractor, we also offer architectural services independently.
The traditional design-bid-build method follows a linear process in which clients must hire and manage separate contracts with an architect and a contractor—often resulting in time-consuming coordination and miscommunication with clients stuck in the middle.
We have been frustrated by the current, hyper-fragmented nature of the contemporary building industry, in which various design scopes are outsourced among multiple consultants, creating an ever expanding and frequently disconnected team. XXBW seeks a reframing of the collaborative process between architects, engineers, design consultants, and builders, where upstream design ideas are informed by building science and the complexities and processes of modern construction.
